My Ideal Career Direction and Working Environment

I. Where I Want to Work & Why China

I hope to begin my career in China. Working in a familiar cultural and linguistic environment allows me to communicate my ideas more naturally, and after watching interviews with several directors who have worked on overseas projects, I realized this even more clearly. Many of them mentioned that language and cultural gaps often slow down communication and sometimes lead to misunderstandings. Hearing these experiences made me feel that creating within my own cultural context would be a smoother and more comfortable path for me.

At the same time, China’s animation industry is growing quickly. More studios and platforms are investing in original content, and the demand for skilled artists continues to rise. My focus is on 2D animation, and from an interview with the CEO of Big Firebird Studio, I learned that there is currently a shortage of 2D animators in the industry. This suggests not only that the market is expanding, but also that newcomers like me will have more chances to take part in meaningful projects.

Ⅱ. The Studio I Admire

The studio I have been paying most attention to is Big Firebird Cultural Media in Guangzhou. Although it was founded only in 2017, it already has a strong body of work and works closely with major platforms in China. Their well-known works include Scissor SevenThe Outcast Ⅲ, as well as short projects like the ED of Chainsaw Man and MV of Fate/GO 8th Anniversary.

What I admire most about Big Firebird is how they bring together artistic style and commercial production. Their projects often experiment with visuals and new techniques, but they still care a lot about storytelling and audience experience. They also take great care with each step of the production process.

What inspires me the most is their attitude toward creation. They are always willing to try new ideas, push themselves, and improve the quality of their work. This kind of studio culture is exactly the environment I hope to work in.

Ⅲ. The Type of Industry I hope to work in & Why

I hope to work in original animated series within the commercial animation industry. Over the past one year, I have mainly learned how to express character performance, emotional changes, and storytelling through movement. These skills fit very well with series animation, where characters and stories grow over time.

I do not want to focus on purely artistic or purely experimental animation. Instead, I want to work in commercial animation while adding some artistic or experimental elements when possible. For me, this is the best balance: the work can reach a wider audience, but it can still carry a sense of creativity and personal expression.

Original animated series offer exactly this mix of stability and freedom, so I feel this direction is the most suitable for my interests and long-term goals.
